Freshwater Green

Olives

We started our Olive grove planning during 1999.

Planned number of tree's will be 5000 in a area of fifty acres.  Types of tree's will be divided among Bernea, Picual, Frantoio, Leccino and Kalamata.

We began our project with soil and sub-soil  analysis and Surveyor supplied elevations of our property.  This was followed with consultation with various State agencies and private suppliers of trees.  From this we have been advised on soil preparation, planting density, tree mix and irrigation requirements for mature trees.

During the later half of 2000, we began the project with the installation of our irrigation system.  This included the building of a new dam in addition to the two already onsite.  This new dam will insure full water requirements for 5000 mature trees throughout the year.  Olives although a very hardy tree, will thrive and increase up to double its normal fruit yield with irrigation. Planting will begin in the Autumn of 2003.

We will continue to update our site with technical and general info and continue too add to our olive photo page.
